welcome to the isaac horgan website! this is the first blog post in what i hope will become a monthly series. stay tuned for an update near the beginning of every month!
for those who aren't familiar, the rpm challenge asks participants to create an album within the month of february. it is a pretty difficult task, and my two previous attempts at it had some success, using primarily the circuit tracks the first time, and working primarily in the daw the second time. this year, i used a combination of both.
overall, i'm very happy with how the challenge went. i ended up with ten songs that i like, and while it was definitely a lot of work right at the end (because i didn't start until like the 15th), it was very rewarding. see more on youtube.
the album of the month for march 2025 is Last Splash by
The Breeders (see on spotify).
the breeders, led by kim deal of pixies, are behind a lot of great music, but this album in particular has quickly become an all-time favourite.
my favourite track is Divine Hammer. this album has the right blend of beautiful composition and imperfect recording that every great record from this era does. it features an instrumental track that isn't just an interlude - it stands on its own as a compelling track, which is rare on a rock album.
as a whole, this album is great. some other tracks worth a listen are Invisible Man, Do You Love Me Now?, and Drivin' on 9.
p.s. i've linked to all of these songs on bandcamp, because it's a much better way to support great artists. however, the album is also available on major streaming services.
